How SmartIcons got started

I’ve spent over 25 years creating business decks - strategy presentations, leadership updates, pitch decks, QBRs, training material, project reviews, business dashboards and everything in between. And every single time, I struggled with the same problem: finding visuals that were flexible, modern, and easy to adjust as the story evolved.

Built-in Office icons were too simple. ThinkCell was overkill (and expensive). Embedding Excel charts slowed everything down. Even AI designers just produced static, one-off graphics that didn't align to brand design.

So using my background in Microsoft’s powerful drawing technology, I built the tool I always wished existed - visuals that stay native to Office and actually adapt to the story.

When my wife, a Chief Human Resources Officer, saw an early prototype, she immediately said, “I have a thermometer icon I used for an employee-giving campaign, but I can't 'raise the temperature when the total dollar amount goes up for my executive updates.' Can you make an icon where I can do that?” And that became the spark that shaped the course of SmartIcons Super Pack 1 - an adjustable icon for almost every need.

Now we - and thousands of others - use them every day to save time and create professional-grade business visuals in Microsoft Office in seconds.
